This is the story of the Paisley Burns statue, a tale of hope, pride, betrayal and ultimate disappointment.
It is the story of how the ordinary inhabitants of Paisley embarked on a great project to honour the Scottish poet Robert Burns with a world-class memorial and how, after a titanic effort, they finally managed to realise their dream, only to be cruelly frustrated by the very people appointed to protect their interests – the local MP and Council.
We will show how this great injustice has been carried on right up to the present day and how the original donors have been shamefully forgotten and ignored by the Council for many years.
We will also show that, despite all of the setbacks, the people of Paisley have never given up on their statue........
